  Comment: The species Rhizosolenia alata Brightwell has been moved to the genus Proboscia (see Hasle and Syvertsen in Tomas (ed.), 1997), but some of the varieties formerly placed in alata (such as this one) appear not to have been formally treated since then, so their status seems uncertain
