  Comment: Bertolani & Rebecchi (1993) note Schultze "erected the species Macrobiotus Hufelandii [...]. This species is still valid today (as Macrobiotus hufelandi Schultze, 1834 according to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature)." This assertion seems to be in direct conflict with the current edition of the ICZN (4th ed., 1999), so it appears that the correct spelling should be the original, Macrobiotus hufelandi (see Articles 31.1 & 33.4 in particular). Spelling has been variously given as ending in -ii or -i in the literature. Many earlier works (Murray, 1910; Marcus, 1928, 1929, 1936; Mathews, 1938) use huflandii, while more recently some major works have spelled it huflandi (Ramazzotti & Maucci, 1983; Guidetti & Bertolani, 2005). Marcus (1936) lists various spellings that have been used in the literature. Further research is needed to clarify the correct spelling
