  Comment: Although there has been some controversy on the identity/status of Lampetra lamottenii (Lesueur, 1827), Renaud (2011:68) treats it as 'questionably' a synonym of Lethenteron appendix (DeKay, 1842). Eschmeyer (Catalog of Fishes online, 2013) treats it as such, despite the seniority of lamottenii, noting that the name has no known type material
