 Comments

Comment: Frost et al. (in Crother et al., 2008) note that "Evidence provided by Masta et al. (2002, Mol. Phylog. Evol. 24: 302-314) suggests that [...] former A.[naxyrus] w.[oodhousii] velatus is a hybrid population of A. woodhousii X A. fowleri, and therefore should not be recognized"
Frost (in litt., Aug. 2009) suggests that ITIS leave velatus in synonymy under A. fowleri, noting that treating it as an ordinary hybrid over-simplifies the complex situation
Crother et al. (2017) note that "Evidence provided by Masta et al. (2002, Mol. Phylog. Evol. 24: 302-314) suggests that [...] former A.[naxyrus] w.[oodhousii] velatus is a hybrid population of A. woodhousii X A. fowleri, and therefore should not be recognized"
