    The original epithet, ceramoidea, appears to be 'ceramo-' (potter's clay, ceramic, etc.) with the oideus suffix, which takes the regular -us, -a, um adjectival endings (Brown 1956:483). Fisher (1911:154) elevated the subgenus Tosia (Plinthaster) to generic rank, and modified the epithet to reflect its masculine gender, Plinthaster ceramoideus (Fisher, 1906). This is what appears to have been used in the literature consistently until the late 1990s, and Fisher's formulation appears to be justified and correct
