 Comments

Comment: Phylum (or subclass) Acanthocephala is apparently a 'pseudohomonym' of (same kingdom but rank not covered by Nomenclatural Code, same name as) insect genus Acanthocephala Laporte, 1833 (TSN 108314)
Formerly treated as a separate phylum, recent work has shown that Acanthocephala belong within phylum Rotifera. Ruggiero et al. (2015) retained it as a separate phylum, while Brusca et al. (2016) treate it as a subclass of the rotifer class Hemirotatoria. Unfortunately, Brusca et al. did not supply any of the further classification within subclass Acanthocephala, so until a unified classification with traditional ranks is available, ITIS will follow Ruggiero et al. (2015)
