  Comment: Stotler and Crandall-Stotler (2017) recognize Lophozia groenlandica (Nees) Macoun as an accepted variety, Lophozia wenzelii (Nees) Steph. var. groenlandica (Nees) Bakalin. However, Soderstrom et al. (2013) decline to assign Lophozia groenlandica to a species, as it has been subject to a variety of interpretations and an unambiguous epitype needs to be selected
