 Comments

Comment: The original description by Linnaeus was spelled Apis cærulescens. Ligature of the letters a and e (æ) is not permitted in scientific names under ICZN Article 27, and is emendable to ae. But note ICZN Article 58.1 deems names differing only in use of ae, or, or e as identical
Richards stated in 1935, "Modern authors have frequently used the name Osmia aenea (L.). The type male of Apis aenea Linnaeus, 1761...is probably the male of O. coerulescens, though the abdomen is now lacking." Richards, O. W. 1935 (June). Notes on the Nomenclature of the Aculeate Hymenoptera, with Special Reference to British Genera and Species. The Transactions of the Entomological Society of London, vol. 83, no. 1:143-176
