    When von Humboldt published the epithet for Humboldt's Woolly Monkey he spelled the epithet both as lagotricha and as lagothricha, a lapsus on his part. While it can be argued that 'lagotricha' includes an incorrect Latinization of the Greek word meaning 'hair', the first subsequent revision of the genus (Fooden, 1963) used the spelling 'lagothricha', thus 'lagothricha' is correct under the Zoological Code
