  Comment: Sato et al. (2012) recommended Ictonyx libycus be assigned to Poecilictis because of its outgroup position to Ictonyx striatus and Poecilogale albinucha, but Koepfli et al. (2008) treated the three species in Ictonyx. The status of this species is contentious (per. comm., Sato, 28 March 2017), and so pending future studies ITIS continues to follow the classification of Wozencraft (2005) in Mammal Species of the World ver. 3
