  Comment: Despite multiple sources citing Gray (1850) for the first family-group use of a name based on Ziphius (e.g., Rice 1998 attributes 'Ziphiina' to that work), he used only Hyperoodontina (pp. 59, 61). Ziphiina was actually coined by Gray (1865:528). See comments on the valid name regarding issues with the relative priority of Ziphiidae vs. Hyperoodontidae
