  Comment: Thor (1900:264) coined the family name Sperchonidae, based on the genus Sperchon Kramer, 1877. Cook (1974) contended that the name should be spelled Sperchontidae. Bader (1985) contensted the change as an unjustified emendation under the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Cook's view seems to have been widely accepted
