  Comment: See discussion of author citation for Accipiter madagascariensis on Zoonomen website (2011). Smith (1834) cited Verreaux's (1833) name Accipiter madagascariensis, then a few pages later coined his own new species, Pernis madagascariensis (now valid as Aviceda madagascariensis, also in Accipitridae). The Accipiter name attributed to Smith (in multiple works) is in error, and is referable to Verreaux's name
