  Comment: Aloe horombensis J.-P. Castillon (Castillon, 2014) is listed as nom. illeg. superfl. in IPNI (2015), but J.-P. Castillon maintains that Aloe subacutissima is different from Aloe horombensis (Ronell Klopper, pers. comm., 2015). This situation has yet to be resolved definitively. If species A. horombensis is illegitimate, subspecies andavakana must also be illegitimate
