  Comment: The name Pellaea longimucronata Hook. was illegitimate as it was superfluous at the time of its publication, due to the inclusion of the earlier name Allosorus mucronatus D.C. Eaton. It has been applied to two species, now known as Pellaea truncata Goodd., and Pellaea mucronata (D.C. Eaton) D.C. Eaton. It is not yet clear in which species the type of Hooker's name belongs, but some authors have placed the name under P. truncata (e.g., Windham 1993:192, Chronquist et al. 1972:202), and others under P. mucronata (e.g., Mickel & Smith 2004:446). One must be a correct application of the name, and the other a misapplication, but it is not yet clear which is which
