 Comments

Comment: Apis saltuum Panzer, 1801 is a possible junior homonym. According to Williams (http://www.nhm.ac.uk/research-curation/projects/bombus/index.html) "Løken(1984) interpreted Bombus saltuum (Panzer, 1801) as a conspecific with B. barbutellus. Consequently B. saltuum would appear to be the oldest available name for this species. However, Løken made no further comment on this and used the name Psithyrus barbutellus (=B. barbutellus), possibly because she remained unsure of the identity of B. saltuum." As of 2011 (Locoquet et al.) it is considered a nomen oblitum and B. barbutellus is a nomen protectum
