  Comment: Martin & Davis (2001) note that Pylochelidae was 'treated as Pomatochelidae in Bowman and Abele, 1982,' but they do not address the authorship, which was in error in Bowman & Abele (1982:23). There, Miers 1879 was erronelously given as author of the family name. Miers (1879:49-51) only described the genus Pomatocheles and one species, not a family. Alcock (1901:209-210) used Pylochelidae but said that if it included Pomatocheles then 'the family name will have to be altered accordingly', based on something unstated other than strict priority. Stebbing (1914:2) coined the family name Pomatochelidae (see especially the last sentence on that page, which notes Alcock's suggestion, but this work was apparently the first to make available a family-group name based on Pomatocheles)
