  Comment: In Wilson and Reeder (2005), Acomys cineraceus is listed as valid and accepted with author Heuglin, 1877; the combination was first published by Fitzinger and Heuglin in 1866, and Heuglin's 1877 publication contains a more detailed account and unjustified emendation 'cinerascens' (see Allen, 1914:328)
