This combination is not to be confused with Cucujus depressus Fabricius 1775, which is the type species of Cucujus Fabricius 1775, and apparently now a junior subjective synonym of the European species C. cinnaberinus (Scopoli, 1763). As these secondary homonyms are not currently conspecific there is no need for Herbst's name to be replaced
