Although recent aquarist literature has recognized Teuthis studeri Peters, 1877 as a distinct species (as Siganus studeri), the last taxonomic work to review the group (Woodland 1990) treated it as a junior synonym of Siganus corallinus (Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1835). ITIS is following the taxonomic publication over the aquarist literature
