 Comments

Comment: From Bianco, 2014: The cavedano has long been referred to S. cephalus (Linnaeus, 1758), a transalpine species, or S. cabeda (Risso, 1826) (type locality: R. Var, near Nice), which also is a transalpine species of uncertain status Kottelat and Freyhof, 2007. Squalius squalus has priority and has been used as a valid subspecies (Bianco, 1995) or species (Kottelat and Frehyof, 2007)
