 Comments

Comment: Bataceae is listed as conserved in Appendix IIB of the 'Vienna Code' (ICBN, 2006, p. 140). According to Zabinkova (1968:22, 26), the name of the type genus, Batis, is a Greek plant name which would have the stem 'Batid-' (which would give Batidaceae), but botanical tradition has treated the stem as 'Bat-' (yielding Bataceae). Bataceae is apparently now well established, and although there have been proposals to conserve Batidaceae, they appear not to have been adopted (Demoulin and Nicolson, 1986:795).
