 Comments

Comment: Recognition of Planchonella as a genus separate from Pouteria is often dependent on geographical scope and taxonomic approach: recent molecular studies centered mainly on New Caledonia and Australia show Planchonella to be distinct; however, the only morphological difference, the presence or absence of endosperm in the seed, is inconsistent worldwide. There has been no comprehensive revision in Asia of either Pouteria or Planchonella; until this, and a complete molecular phylogeny including all species, are available no definite conclusions can be drawn (T.D. Pennington, pers. com., 02-2013)
