  Comment: Apparently belongs in Megalops [Megalopidae], in synonymy under either Megalops cyprinoides (Broussonet, 1782) or Megalops atlanticus Valenciennes, 1847  
    Although Clupea thrissoides Bloch & Schneider 1801 is senior to Megalops atlanticus Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes 1847, Eschmeyer (online Catalog of Fishes, 2004) says that "The name Megalops atlanticus should be continued following provisions of the 1999 code" [International Code of Zoological Nomenclature]
