  Comment: 'Amin's 1992 revision of Polymorphus recognised two subgenera, Polymorphus Lühe, 1911 and Profilicollis Meyer, 1931. The elevation of these two subgenera to the generic level has been controversial, e.g. Nickol et al. 1999 supports it based on intermediate host affinities but García-Varela and Pérez-Ponce de León (2008) disagree based on sequences of the cox 1 gene. The elevation to generic level is provisionally admitted herein.' (Amin, 2013)
