 Comments

Comment: Guglielmone et al. (2009:322) note that 'Haemaphysalis quinghaiensis Teng,1980 is spelled qinghaiensis by Horak et al. (2002) and Barker and Murrell (2004) and even in Teng's original description (Teng 1980). Nonetheless, Latin grammar dictates that the correct spelling for this species is quinghaiensis, as recorded in Camicas et al. (1998).' Under the ICZN (2000), there is no basis for this kind of correction or emendation, unless Teng spelled the name both ways (in which case a First Reviser would note both and select one), although that is not alleged here. 'Quinghai' and 'Qinghai' (among others) are both valid transliterations, and Article 32.5.1 specifies that 'Incorrect transliteration or latinization, or use of an inappropriate connecting vowel, are not to be considered inadvertent errors.' Until new evidence supporting a Code-compliant emendation arises, ITIS will retain the original spelling as the correct one
