  Comment: Although Poselger (1853:107) cited the Scheer ex Salm-Dyck (1850:104) name Mammillaria strobiliformis, that name is a later homonym and so illegitimate (twice over). Poselger's name counts as a new name based on the same type, but attributed to Poselger alone (ICBN 2006, Art. 58.1). Both names are said to correspond to what is called Escobaria chihuahuensis Britton & Rose, although their broad misapplication (to what is known as E. tuberculosa (Engelm.) Britton & Rose) has led authors (e.g., Hunt 2006:113 & 115) to reject the later combination Escobaria stobiliformis (Poselg.) Boed., as well
