  Comment: May be a junior secondary homonym listed as follows in O'Hara and Wood (2004): 'Genus LYDINA Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 americana (Townsend, 1892).- Widespread throughout America north of Mexico (O'Hara, 2002). Tryphera americana Townsend, 1892d: 78. Type data: holotype female (SEMK). Type locality: USA, southern Illinois. Tryphera polidoides Townsend, 1892d: 79. Type data: holotype female (originally in SEMK but apparently lost). Type locality: USA, New York. Polidea americana Townsend, 1892d: 82 (preoccupied by Tryphera americana Townsend, 1892d: 78). Type data: syntypes, 1 male and 2 females (1 male syntype in SEMK and 1 female syntype in USNM). Type locality: USA, Michigan, Constantine. References: Coquillett, 1897: 65 (diagnosis of areos Walker, with Tryphera americana, polidoides and Polidea americana in synonymy); Byers et al., 1962: 176, 177 (location of syntype of Polidea americana and holotype of Tryphera polidoides); O'Hara, 2002: 131 (Tryphera americana in key to species of Lydina, redescription as species complex, synonymy)'
