  Comment: 'Our data suggests that subpalmata and nivalis are conspecific, but we do not have reasons (and further research would be needed for that) to consider subpalmata as synonymous to any of the nivalis subspecies [...] Given its distinctiveness in terms of morphology, ecology and behavior, the best treatment is probably to consider it a subspecies on its own (this is, Mustela nivalis subpalmata)' (Mónica Rodrigues, pers. comm. 31/01/2018)
