  Comment: In Wilson and Reeder (2005) the author of synonym [Conepatus] chilensis is listed as (E. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1803). However, a species with epithet chilensis was not established in Saint-Hilaire 1803; the citation apparently represents a chresonym of Viverra chilensis Link, 1795 (see Cabrera, 1957)
