 Comments

Comment: From Gilbert, 1998: Jordan and Evermann (1896: 258) were first to point out that Codoma vittata Girard, 1856 was preoccupied in Notropis by Leuciscus vittatus DeKay 1842 (junior synonym of Notropis cornutus), and used next available name, Notropis aztecus Woolman 1894, for species. Miller (1976: 10) apparently first to show that Ceratichthys sallaei Günther 1868 actually oldest name for species, so Codoma vittata Girard 1856 is unavailable senior synonym of Notropis sallei (Günther 1868)
Codoma vittata Girard, 1856 was a junior secondary homonym of Leuciscus vittatus DeKay, 1842 when both were treated in Notropis. Although they are no longer congeneric (see ICZN Arts. 57-60), authors continue to reject Girard's name and instead use Aztecula sallaei (Günther, 1868) (or Notropis sallaei (Günther, 1868), depending on the generic arrangement)
