  Comment: Although Nelson (1994) lists "Photichthyidae" for this family, more recent authors (e.g., Craddock and Hartel in Collette and Klein-MacPhee, 2002; Moore et al., 2003; Eschmeyer's online Catalog of Fishes, 2003) favor the change to Phosichthyidae, to reflect the correct spelling of the type genus, Phosichthys Hutton 1872
