  Comment: Kabata (1993) noted in the proposal to conserve Pennella Oken, 1815, that this name "was misspelled as 'Penella' by Burmeister (1835, p. 320)," and Rice (1994) also notes that "Cetologists have long been confused as to whether the name should be spelled Pennella or Penella." Subsequently, the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature (Opinion 1817) conserved the name Pennella Oken, 1815, despite it having been published in a work that was rejected (on the grounds that it did not use binomial names for species; see Opinion 417, September 1956)
