  Comment: Multiple recent studies have examined the placement of genera within tribes Nycticeiini and/or tribe Eptesicini (Hoofer et al. 2003; Hoofer et al. 2006; Roehrs et al. 2011), and yet deep branching patterns and the evolutionary history of this group / these groups remains unresolved. See Roehrs et al. 2011, pg 26: "It seems apparent from both the mtDNA and nDNA phylogenies that Arielulus, Eptesicus, Glauconycteris, Lasionycteris, and Scotomanes likely comprise a monophyletic clade. The only confounding factor is the unresolved position of Nycticeius. Bacular morphology, cytogenetics, and nDNA put the position of Nycticeius closer to the tribe Antrozoini and Plecotini, but until its position is resolved, the full circumscription of this clade (Eptesicini/Nycticeiini) and its nomenclature remain equivocal."
